We have experience investigating fires ranging from small losses to some of the largest in the United States, and everything in between.

our company
Firebrand Forensics & Consulting, LLC is owned and operated by Derek Hill, a retired ATF Special Agent/Certified Fire Investigator. He has over 28 years of investigative experience including 24 years with ATF. He was a former member of ATF’s National Response Team (NRT) and has worked on some of the most complex scenes the NRT has ever investigated. Some of these scenes include the Conception Boat Fire, Lahaina Wildfires, Palisades Wildfire, West Texas Explosion, Austin Serial Bomber, Nashville Explosion, Cyprus Wildfires, and the Guyana Dormitory Fire.
He has investigated fires involving multi-million-dollar losses, fatality fires, LODD fires, and other complex investigations. He has investigated cold cases involving Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) and has testified as an expert witness on numerous occasions in both criminal and civil proceedings throughout the United States.
He is certified through the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI), and is a qualified wildland fire investigator (INVF) through the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG).
