Expert Witness Testimony and Case Preparation

At Firebrand Forensics & Consulting, we provide comprehensive litigation support and expert testimony related to fire and explosion investigations. Our goal is to assist clients and counsel in understanding complex technical issues and presenting investigative findings in a clear, objective, and defensible manner.

Our involvement can extend beyond the initial origin and cause investigation to include case preparation, technical consultation, review of opposing expert opinions, evidence evaluation, and assistance in developing deposition and trial strategies involving fire-related technical issues.

Litigation support services may include:

  • Technical consultation with attorneys, insurers, and other interested parties

  • Review and analysis of investigative reports, photographs, evidence, and case materials

  • Evaluation of opposing expert reports, opinions, and methodologies

  • Identification of technical strengths, weaknesses, and areas requiring additional investigation

  • Assistance with preparation for depositions, examinations, and trial

  • Development of technical questions for depositions and examinations of other experts

  • Preparation of exhibits, diagrams, photographs, and other demonstrative materials

  • Participation in evidence examinations and joint inspections

  • Preparation and review of expert reports and technical findings

  • Deposition and trial testimony

When providing expert testimony, opinions are based upon the available facts and evidence, applicable scientific principles, education, training, and experience, and recognized fire investigation methodology, including the principles and guidance contained within NFPA 921, Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations, NWCG PMS-412, Guide to Wildland Fire Origin and Cause Determination, and the professional competencies identified in NFPA 1033, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator.

From initial case evaluation through deposition and trial, we work closely with counsel while maintaining the independence and objectivity required of a forensic investigator and expert witness. Our focus is on providing technically sound opinions and communicating those opinions in a manner that is understandable, well-supported, and capable of withstanding professional and legal scrutiny.
